Dallas Mavericks: Mavs' president says lots of trade talk, despite no action

The Dallas Mavericks did as most prognosticators initially expected and did nothing at the 2014 NBA trade deadline. Yet, perhaps no one expected the Mavericks to do as much talking as they ended up doing.

Dallas Mavericks' president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson spoke with the Star-Telegram after the deadline passed today, to explain why the Dallas Mavericks ended up standing as is despite being involved in a litany of trade talks--

“This group has done some really good things in the past week and giving them an opportunity to continue that is important. Obviously you’ve got to make the calls, you’ve got to turn over every stone. But in the long run we like the direction that the team’s going in and we stood pat.”

Even after a tough 117-106 home loss to the Miami Heat on Tuesday, the Dallas Mavericks still occupy the eighth spot in an extremely deep NBA Western Conference.

The Dallas Mavericks' president made it perfectly clear to the Star-Telegram that he is happy with what the Dallas Mavericks have achieved this season with the roster they currently have--

"We feel like we’re going in the right direction internally and obviously Coach [Carlisle] is involved in every decision that we make. We felt that it’s in our best interest to keep the crew together, to keep growing together and improving and getting better."
