Dallas Mavericks: Dirk Nowitzki says loss to Timberwolves "feels like playoff loss"

The Dallas Mavericks have been on a topsy-turvy roller coaster ride for the better part of the 2013-14 NBA season, and tonight's 123-122 overtime loss at home against the Dallas Mavericks may have finally made them sick.

As reported by the Dallas Morning News, Dirk Nowitzki seemed bewildered by the final turn of events, including missing a long two-pointer over Kevin Love on the Dallas Mavericks' final possession--"This is a tough one," stated Nowitzki who scored 27 points, yet took a bewildering 27 shots to get there. "This feels like a playoff loss. It really does. I don't know what to say."

Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle wasn't lost for words in critiquing the Mavs' performance, which included being down 50-28 in the beginning minutes of the second quarter:

"Our poor play at the beginning is the reason it came down the way it did...Shame on us. They were aggressive. We were sloppy. We made some mistakes in overtime defensively. We let Love split us and score. Then it becomes a game of Russian roulette, whether you can make the last shot or not."

Most analysts will point to Dirk Nowitzki's 0-for-7 performance from beyond the arc as the key nail in the Dallas Mavericks' coffin tonight.

However, the team defense went missing in the entire first half, giving up 66 points and --despite a valiant comeback effort-- the Dallas Mavericks looked very much like a team who expected to lose and hoped to win.
