Report: Cowboys Considering Cutting LB Rolando McClain After Suspension

Dallas Cowboys LB Rolando McClain was suspended 10 games by the NFL for violation the substance abuse policy, and now the Cowboys are considering moving on from the linebacker all together.

Leslie's report is backed by one from Mike Fisher, who reports the only one arguing against cutting McClain is owner Jerry Jones.

This is not McClain's first issue, as he was suspended for the first four games of the 2015 season for violating the policy. He's the third Cowboys starter of the defensive side of the ball to be suspended this offseason. DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory both picked up a four-game ban for violating the substance abuse policy. Lawrence's appeal of his suspension was rejected today as well.

McClain recorded 80 tackles with two sacks and a interception in 11 games last season and is the second-best LB on the Cowboys roster behind Sean Lee. With McClain out, the Cowboys need a new MLB. Lee could slide back to the middle, with Damien Wilson (or Kyle Wilber) playing opposite Anthony Hitchens on the outside. Andrew Gachkar is the backup at MLB, since Jaylon Smith won't be ready for the start of the season.

McClain signed a one-year, $4 million contract this offseason. However, only $750,000 of that was guaranteed. The Cowboys would save over $2.6 million if they cut McClain.
