Cowboys News: Dallas Sets Deadline For Tony Romo Decision

The future of Tony Romo has been the biggest storyline of the NFL offseason, as the Dallas Cowboys have yet to decide if they will trade Romo or release him.

Dallas is taking their time with the decision, but owner Jerry Jones said that a decision will be made before the Cowboys start training camp, according to TheMMQB.com's Albert Breer.

The Cowboys have not yet set a start date for training camp this year, but last year's started at the end of July.

It's a foregone conclusion that Romo will not be back with Dallas next season, as he does not want to backup Dak Prescott and the Cowboys don't want to pay him his $20 million salary to be a backup. The Houston Texans are expected to be the eventual landing spot for Romo whenever Dallas does part ways with him, as the Denver Broncos have indicated they are no longer interested.

Romo is also reportedly considering retirement, and has received offers from both FOX and CBS to be an analyst on game broadcasts next season.

Romo suffered a back injury in the preseason, then lost his starting job to Prescott. He played just one drive this past year, completing 3/4 passes for 29 yards and a touchdown. In his last full season in 2014, Romo threw for 3,705 yards with 34 touchdowns and just nine interceptions.
