Cowboys Beat Redskins 19-16 As Both Offenses Come To Life Late

Offense was in short supply early on Monday Night. Neither the Dallas Cowboys or Washington Redskins were able to effectively move the ball and no one scored until the final 1:15 . It was the Cowboys who came out on top, in a 19-16 win. Of those 35 points, 17 came in the final 1:15. The Cowboys are now 4-8 with the win, and only one game out of the NFC East race. The Redskins slipped to 5-7 and are now in a three-way tie for the NFC East.

The Cowboys turned the ball over three times, but the Redskins failed to turn those into touchdowns. Dallas forced just one turnover and it was critical. DeSean Jackson reversed field on a punt return, lost nearly 15 yards and fumbled inside the 10-yard line. Cowboys Punter Chris Jones dived on the ball and gave the Cowboys wonderful field position to take a 16-9 lead with just over a minute to go.

The Redskins had the ball at the Dallas 42 with 1:06 left after a return and a Cowboys penalty. Jackson then redeemed himself by reeling in a 28-yard TD pass with 44 second left.

The Cowboys drove back down the field in the final 30 seconds after a strong return. That helped set up Dan Bailey for the game-winning field goal from 54 yards with just nine seconds left. Bailey hit all four of his field goals in the game.

Darren McFadden had just 53 yards on 14 carries and fumbled twice. However, he found the end zone late to give the Cowboys a temporary lead. Dallas had 97 yards on the ground, 35 of which came from WR Lucky Whitehead.

Matt Cassel completed 16 of 29 passes for 220 yards. He didn't throw any TDs or picks. WR Dez Bryant had three catches for 62 yards. TE Jason Witten had five catches for 45 yards. He caught his 1,000 career pass in the game, making him just the second TE to ever do so.

Kicker Dustin Hopkins hit three of his four field goals for Washington, although the one he missed turned out to be critical.

The Redskins were able to pick up just 74 yards on 26 carries on the ground. Matt Jones led the way with 50 yards on 18 carries.

Kirk Cousins completed 22 of 31 passes, but only had 219 yards and one TD. His longest completion of the day was the 28-yard TD pass.

The Cowboys visit the Packers next week, as they search for their second win this season without QB Tony Romo. The Redskins travel to play the Bears and need to bounce back.
