The Dallas Cowboys Might Not Have Drafted Johnny Manziel Due To A Coin Flip

Heads, the Cowboys win? Or lose?

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, "on Thursday night, Rams coach Jeff Fisher said that his team was trying to swing a trade with the Ravens at No. 17 for [eventual Cowboys draft pick Zack] Martin."

However, a coin flip between the Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys at the NFL Scouting Combine could have changed all of that. If Dallas would have lost the coin flip, they would have fallen to 17th -- one pick behind the Ravens, which may have helped the trade with the Rams take place.

As things turned out, the Cowboys bypassed the top-rated player left on their draft board at #16 in Johnny Manziel, in order to take the "safer" pick in Martin.

As Florio posits, "if Martin hadn’t been there, could Jones have ignored the fact that Manziel was the No. 1 guy on the Dallas board?"

We will never know the answer to that inquiry, but we may have been this close from what would have been absolute must-see-TV in the Big D.
