Don't Cement Anything...Cowboys In Flux

Cowboys Faithful, consider the 53-man roster nothing more than a satisfied requirement at this juncture. The NFL sets a date and time for all teams to comply, and the Cowboys did just that. Comply, not fortify. The leveling and smoothing depicted above is far from over, and that's a good thing. For if the roster listing supplied by the Cowboys is an "all cards turned over" proposition, they might as well have "folded" without revealing a thing.

A closer look reveals 4 running backs carried. Why? With the two supposed starting cornerbacks dinged and hobbled, one can only hope RB is the first position turned to if a desired player making his way through waivers is sought. If looking for players to start that "wish list," turn no further than recently-released Patriots CB, Brandon Meriweather.

The Cowboys are most likely in line with a slew of teams vying for his rights, but at least they are financially positioned right to make a run at his services. Mike Jenkins' stinger could be a reoccurring sore spot, and the Terence Newman injury-bug is a well-chronicled nightmare. At the very least, a phone call has to be made.

The other major area of unrest is the Kicker Conundrum. The Cowboys are right back where they started when the NFL Lockout ended. Kickers coming and going, and nothing has changed. This is highly-unsettling as the season fast approaches. The Cowboys have a winnable schedule in September, but falling to an inferior opponent due to wide left, wide right or horrendously short will mark an event of significant debate. When the Cowboys desperately need more depth in vital spots, carrying two kickers is inexcusable. No FB's, 4 RB's and 2 kickers....what's wrong with this picture?

Here's the hope. Realistically, fans should hope to see anywhere from 2-5 additional roster changes before the team charter leaves for the showdown with the Jets. No, they are no superstar, game-changers hanging out on the waiver wires, but roster fortification is there for the taking. The money has to be on Tom Ciskowski and his staff. It's time for all their Summer travels and Camp grinds to pay off. The next few days will be most interesting, and it's comforting to know nothing has settled or cured at this point in time.
