Cowboys Rumors: "Insane" For Cowboys To Trade Up And Draft Johnny Manziel

In tonight's edition of Cowboys rumors, ESPN's John Clayton thinks that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would be out of his mind to trade away a good chunk of his 2014 NFL Draft to draft Johnny Manziel.

In his mailbag for ESPN.com posted on Sunday, Clayton made it abundantly clear that he hopes that it's just the "marketing part" of Jones which is indicating that he might pull off a blockbuster deal to land Manziel -- "Such a move would be insane. Manziel is going to go in the top seven. Jones would have to give up too many draft choices at a time the Cowboys have been hamstrung in free agency because of cap problems. He is a smart businessman."

"I think the Manziel talk is just to throw off the Houston Texans," Clayton continued. "The Texans' brand in the state of Texas would grow substantially if Manziel were Houston's quarterback. It could challenge the Cowboys' brand in the state."

If Jerry Jones decides that preserving the Cowboys' brand is too important to pass up, it is not out of the realm of possibility that he would initiate a trade to land Manziel.

Yet, at this point it looks more likely that the Cowboys are just fueling the guessing game for the media and the rest of the NFL.
