Cowboys Rumors: 3 Players Dallas Should Draft In The First Round Are...

After a solid season in 2014 ended in a particularly painful way, the Dallas Cowboys feel like they have unfinished business to take care of. However, after losing several players in free agency (most notably All-Pro RB DeMarco Murray), the Cowboys will be turning to the NFL Draft to find some impact players. Here are three players they are targeting in the first round:

RB Melvin Gordon, Wisconsin

Gordon’s is arguably the best running back in the draft, possessing a first-step explosiveness and playmaker pedigree that evokes Chris Johnson during his prime years with the Tennessee Titans. Gordon finished just 41 yards shy of Barry Sanders’ all-time single-season rushing record with 2,587 yards in 2014, and there’s no reason to think that he’s not a worthy 1st-round pick or a future Pro Bowler at this juncture.

LB Denzel Perryman, Miami

The Cowboys have already lost two of their three starting linebackers from last season, and the third (Rolando McClain) is still on the open market. Even if Dallas re-signs him, they need to find a premier middle linebacker, and Perryman is perhaps the best in the draft. He doesn't have elite speed or athleticism, but his strength, acceleration, and instincts have drawn comparisons to London Fletcher.

RB Todd Gurley, Georgia

Finding a suitable replace for Murray is priority No.1 for the Cowboys, so if Gordon is off the board, they will take Gurley in the first round. The Georgia running back was considered to be the best back in the country - by far - early in the season, but a suspension and torn ACL have him sliding down draft boards. If Dallas has no questions about Gurley's knee, he'll be a dominant force in the NFL from day one.
