Cowboys News: Cowboys interested in former New York Giants tight ends coach Mike Pope

In Cowboys news today, it looks as if a former member of the hated New York Giants' coaching staff could end up in Dallas for next season.

According to NFL sources, former New York Giants tight ends coach Mike Pope has been targeted by Dallas head coach Jason Garrett as a potential top candidate to fill the Cowboys' vacant TE coaching job. Garrett shrugged off the rumors Tuesday, stating that the Cowboys have discussed several options, even though Pope is a "good friend" of Garrett's and "obviously a very good coach."

Pope has 31 years of NFL coaching experience, with 23 of those spent as the tight ends coach in New York. Mike Pope is widely perceived as one of the best assistant coaches in all of the NFL. He is also the only coach in the history of the New York Giants to be on staff for all 4 of the Giants' Super Bowl victories.

Cowboys' head coach Jason Garrett served as the New York Giants' backup quarterback from 2000-03 while Pope was on staff, and struck up a lasting friendship which could end up landing Pope a job in Dallas sooner rather than later.
