5 Players The Cowboys Could Sign To Replace Orlando Scandrick

The loss of Orlando Scandrick to a torn MCL and ACL is a big blow for the Dallas Cowboys' defense. Scandrick was the team's top cornerback last year and was expected to be again this season. Brandon Carr, Morris Claiborne and Byron Jones are now the team's top CBs, but they are all best suited to play outside and not in the slot like Scandrick. The team is high on Tyler Patmon, but he has played little in his NFL career. The Cowboys will likely try to fill the loss of Scandrick with players already on the roster, but if they look to add someone, here are five players Dallas could sign.

5. Chris Cook

Recently cut by the 49ers, Cook is one of the more talented corners left on the market. He's battled injuries and has never quite lived up to his potential. Working against Cook is that he's likely better suited to play on the boundary and Dallas doesn't need more of those corners.

4. Carlos Rogers

Rogers has played some nickel back, and that's what the Cowboys need. He played for the Raiders last season, but wasn't anything special. Working against Rogers is that he's 34 and might not have much left in the tank.

3. Alfonzo Dennard

Injuries have plagued Dennard since the Patriots drafted him. He's shown promise at times, but has never been able to stay healthy. He was recently cut by the Cardinals, but he's still only 26.

2. Cortland Finnegan

Finnegan retired after last season, but a chance to play for a contender like the Cowboys could be enough to get him to return. He's best in the slot, which is exactly what Dallas needs. However, he's struggled with injuries and started to decline in 2012. He was a bit better last year, but wasn't the same player he was early in his career.

1. Bill Bentley

If Dallas is going to sign anyone currently on the market, it should be Bentley. He was supposed to be the nickel back for the Detroit Lions last year, but was hurt. The Lions recently cut him, which was a bit of a surprise. He struggled at times with the Lions when he was healthy, but there aren't many solid options left. If he checks out medically, and he might not, there is no harm in signing Bentley and giving him a chance.
