Mark Clattenburg was taken off Crystal Palace’s match with Everton on Friday after the Premier League referee fell ill with a virus.
The County Durham official was replaced by Jon Moss for the fixture at Goodison Park.
Clattenburg's most recent refereeing assignment was Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid's Champions League match on Tuesday night.
The 41-year-old was hopeful that he could recover in time for Friday's clash but was unable to do so, and the Premier League decided to relieve him of his duties.
