With little more to play for than pride, Crew SC coach Gregg Berhalter made a few noteworthy changes to his lineup against New York. But while some of the personnel might have been different at Red Bull Arena, the result was frustratingly the same for a Crew team already eliminated from postseason contention with two games to play.
The Red Bulls (15-9-9) broke a scoreless tie at the half with two goals in a five-minute span and withstood a late charge to hand the Crew (8-13-12) a 3-2 loss in the penultimate game of the regular season.
For the first time since the end of the 2013 season, Steve Clark did not start in goal for the Crew.
