Colorado State addresses drainage issue at new stadium

FORT COLLINS — When a major thunderstorm hit Fort Collins on Aug. 10, it created a flooding issue for Colorado State's new on-campus stadium, one CSU deputy director of athletics Steve Cottingham said Friday has been fixed.

The hard rains from the storm led to flooding at the field level, with a large ring of water surrounding the Sonny Lubick Field turf and leading to some minor flood damage in parts of the field level. There was no damage to the field, which was still playable, but the sidelines were flooded.

Cottingham said the stadium's draining system worked, but a faulty valve led water to flow back into the stadium, which should not have happened.
