SAN DIEGO — The Rockies were in desperate need of an ace Wednesday afternoon at Petco Park.
Tyler Chatwood answered the call to near perfection.
The right-hander, who has twice undergone Tommy John surgery, pitched the game of his career in Colorado's 2-0 victory over San Diego. He allowed just three hits over eight scoreless innings, striking out seven and walking only one.
Chatwood, 4-2, reduced his road ERA to an absurdly low 0.33. On the road, he has pitched 24 consecutive innings without allowing a run. His overall ERA is 2.15.
San Diego didn't even reach second base until Brett Wallace roped a two-out double into the left-field corner in the seventh.
