LOS ANGELES – Carlos Gonzalez recalled the Rockies working out in Miami the day before the 2014 season opener.
He was approached behind the batting cage by Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez, who was coming off a Rookie of the Year campaign and was scheduled to start Opening Day.
“He had that big smile of his and told me he was going to strike me out three times. I told him I’d hit a home run,” Gonzalez said. “The first time up I got a base hit on a line drive up the middle and he stared at me.
