The Rockies on Wednesday swapped another pitcher, sending reliever Rex Brothers to the Chicago Cubs for 18-year-old left-hander Wander Cabrera, the teams said.
Brothers last week was designated for assignment as the Rockies' purged their roster of four players to make room for younger minor-leaguers.
Cabrera, who signed with the Cubs last year as a 16-year-old out of the Domincan Republic for $250,000, is a big, strong lefty. Already 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, he played his first professional season this year in the Dominican Summer League.
In 14 games, Cabrera started seven games for the DSL Cubs, throwing 42 1/3 innings for a 2.
