DJ LeMahieu remains steady force in Rockies’ recent hot streak

NEW YORK — Nolan Arenado, Carlos Gonzalez, Trevor Story and David Dahl have been grabbing the headlines lately. Meanwhile, second baseman DJ LeMahieu keeps rolling quietly along.

Entering Friday night’s game, he was hitting .325, fourth in the National League. Against the Mets this season, he’s hitting .429. His .862 OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage) was ahead of his career mark of .726.

Yet, he gets relatively little media attention.

“He doesn’t care. Actually, that’s how he likes it,” said center fielder Charlie Blackmon, LeMahieu’s close friend.

What the second baseman does care about is gaining the respect of his teammates.
