In today's Rockies rumors and news update, the Colorado Rockies designated former All-Star pitcher Jair Jurrjens for assignment on Monday after promoting first baseman Ben Paulsen in a corresponding move.

After his acquisition from the Reds earlier this month, Jurrjens struggled in a couple of spot starts with the Rockies. While he did post nine strikeouts against just three walks in 9.1 innings, the 28-year-old pitched to contact so much that he gave up 11 earned runs during that short span.
Jurrjens has fared moderately better during his time spent at Triple-A this year, with a 4.02 ERA in 40.1 innings pitched. While Jurrjens' stuff is not in question as he's still getting enough movement on his pitchs to post a decent strikeout rate, he seems to be in need of retooling when it comes to both keeping the ball down and out of the heart of plate - something that could be facilitated with an extended stint in the minors.
