Tyson Barrie’s arbitration hearing opens in Toronto

The Avalanche and Tyson Barrie’s camp didn’t reach a contract agreement in advance of Friday morning’s arbitration hearing in Toronto, so the hearing opened with arbitrator Elizabeth Neumeier presiding.

The Avalanche argued that Barrie be paid $4 million and $4.25 million in the next two seasons, while the Barrie contingent pitched for a one-year, $6-million deal.

Neumeier’s decision would be announced within 48 hours. She doesn’t have to pick one side’s figure but can select a compromise figure. The two sides still could reach a deal on their own before Neumeier issues a decision.
