Avalanche center Ben Smith, placed on waivers Sunday for the purpose of assigning him to the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League, was claimed by the Toronto Maple Leafs Monday.
The Avalanche didn’t practice Monday.
Winger Mikko Rantanen hadn’t yet been recalled from the Rampage, but general manager Joe Sakic last week said Rantanen would rejoin the Avs this week.
Colorado next plays Friday at home against Winnipeg and Saturday at Arizona.
