Last summer the NHL announced a new method for calculating who gets the #1 overall pick in the NHL Draft. Time was, the team that had the worst record was almost guaranteed the #1 pick. However, teams that had no chance of making the playoffs starting allowing themselves to tank, and that didn’t seem very sporting.
So, the NHL devised the Draft Lottery, complete with lottery balls and everything. That’s right, actual lottery balls.
The NHL Draft Lottery is set to take place at the CBC headquarters in Toronto — everything NHL takes place in Toronto.
