Cleveland Indians offense sputters, defense falters in 6-2 loss to Kansas City Royals

The Indians’ offense once again struggled to support ace Corey Kluber and the defense once again compounded the offensive struggles in a 6-2 loss to the Kansas City Royals at Progressive Field Monday night.

The Indians managed four hits and committed three errors. Twice, Royals starter Jason Vargas walked back-to-back batters with one out but got out of the inning without allowing any runs. The first time, Carlos Santana grounded out and Ryan Raburn flew out. The second time it didn’t even get that far, as Santana grounded into an inning-ending double play.

The lone bright spot offensively was Mike Aviles’ fifth-inning two-run home run to left field that tied the score 2-2.
