For 60 young men, the night of the NBA draft is a coronation. They become the newest members of professional basketball teams, and begin the next step in their basketball journey. However, some players in need of a bit more polish take another path to the league.
Players who declare for the draft and are not selected are allowed to sign with any of the 30 NBA teams. These players sign non-guaranteed contracts and fight for a spot on the roster in the Summer League. Teams then make the decision whether or not to invite players to training camp.
