Cavs News: Chauncey Billups Still Negotiating Front Office Role With Franchise

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been trying to hire former NBA point guard and ESPN analyst Chauncey Billups to be their general manager, and the two sides are still in negotiations, according to ESPN's Jeff Goodman.

Chauncey Billups still in negotiations with Dan Gilbert & Cavs, source told ESPN. Counter-offered yesterday; now it's in Dan Gilbert's court.

Cleveland "parted ways" with former GM David Griffin last week and immediately targeted Billups as his replacement.

The Cavs offered Billups - who has no front office experience, their VP job last week, according to Joe Vardon of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. However, since Billups has counter-offered, negotiations may still go on for a few days before a resolution is reached.

Billups and Cavs owner DanGilbert have long had a relationship. Billups previously endorsed endorsed Rock Financial, which Gilbert's Detroit-based mortgage company, when Billups was still a star guard for the Detroit Pistons. Billups is also close with Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue, dining with him multiple times during the NBA Finals.
