Top 5 Candidates For The Cleveland Cavs Coaching Job As Of May 24th

The Cleveland Cavs' coaching search is expected to ramp up next week, with the team looking to find Mike Brown's replacement prior to June's NBA Draft. We've got a clear favorite starting to emerge at the top of our list, with a bunch of familiar faces occupying the rest of the top-five. Who's number one? Keep reading our  Top 5 Cleveland Cavs Head Coaching Candidates As Of May 24th to find out:

5. Vinny Del Negro

Del Negro's time coaching both the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Clippers was marred with questions about his ability to both game-plan effectively and maintain talent relations on the floor. However, Del Negro still has several friends in high places around the league, including with the Cleveland Cavs. He will most likely get an interview, but should remain near the outside of the search during the weeks to come.

4. Alvin Gentry

The Cleveland Cavs (and GM David Griffin) have expressed interest in interviewing the former Phoenix Suns head coach. Griffin and Gentry worked together in Phoenix, and Griffin is well aware that Gentry didn't truly receive the talent necessary to push the Suns' needle from also-ran to contender during his time there. He could definitely have that opportunity in Cleveland, with the first overall pick in June's draft in the team's back pocket.

3. Adrian Griffin

USA Today's Sam Amick and Jeff Zillgitt maintain that Griffin is a leading candidate to replace Mike Brown as Cavs head coach. However, the team is said to also be actively searching the collegiate ranks for coaches, along with keeping their eyes on experienced NBA coaches drawn to the job by the team's amazing NBA Draft Lottery luck. This could leave the Chicago Bulls assistant coach on the outside of this search - at least for now.

2. George Karl

Karl launches up our list for a couple of reasons. Firstly, he truly wants to be a part of the Cleveland Cavs organization. He has said so himself on numerous occassions, even before the Cavs picked up the number one overall pick in June's draft. Secondly, he's George Karl. He at least deserves a very close look in this search based solely on his impressive body of work over the past few decades.

1. Lionel Hollins

Not many people are talking about this possibility at the present moment, but don't be fooled. Hollins presents a close-to-perfect fit for the Cleveland Cavs. He showed his ability to develop young talent during his time as head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies, and his defense-first mentality could prove to be an extremely valuable asset in helping the Cavs ascend to the top of the Eastern Conference ladder. Keep Hollins on the tip of your tongue. He may very well run away with this job in the end.
