Instant Reaction: Cavs Dominate Pacers In 109-97 Win

Cleveland started strong as they opened the game with a 22-6 run, but Indiana fought back and cut the lead to 52-49 at halftime. However, that seemed to wake the Cavaliers up as they took control of the game in the third quarter and held on for the easy victory.

Turning Point:

After the Pacers got back into the game in the second quarter, the Cavaliers opened the third on a 9-2 run, regaining a comfortable lead and control of the game.

Key Stat:

Cleveland's offensive game was flowing tonight. They were moving the ball well, which led to 52.6 percent shooting from the field on the game, including 43.8 percent from beyond the arc.

Cleveland MVP:

Kevin Love had his first huge game with the Cavs, scoring 28 points and grabbing 10 rebounds while having a big impact all over the court. Kyrie Irving also had a big night with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. LeBron James finished with 19 points and seven assists.

Indiana MVP:

David West played well despite being limited with foul trouble, dropping 14 points along with six rebounds.

What Did We Learn?

Cleveland still isn't a mentally strong team. They've improved on the other areas of their game (the defense has gotten better, they're moving the ball on offense, etc.), but they still let their foot off the gas pedal. Indiana had no business being in this game after the first quarter, but the Cavs eased up and let them back in the game. Once they play focused basketball all the time, they'll be able to reach their full potential.

As for Indiana, we were reminded that Frank Vogel is still one of the best coaches in the league. This team - with injuries to George Hill, Paul George, and Roy Hibbert - was still competitive in this game and are in the mix in the Eastern Conference. Vogel has this team playing hard defense every night and is getting the most out of his players, but they just don't enough talent without those injured players to have a legitimate shot at beating teams like the Cavs.

What’s Next?

Cleveland will close their five-game homestand against the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday, while the Pacers travel to Phoenix to face the Suns on the same day.
