Cavs Sweep Hawks, Advance To NBA Finals

Kyrie Irving returned to the floor for the Cleveland Cavs tonight with 16 points and 5 assists to help move the Cavs past the Atlanta Hawks in a 118-88 blowout win in game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals to complete a sweep and move into the NBA Finals.

This is the 5th straight NBA Finals for Cavs superstar LeBron James, one of the rarest feats in American sports history. LeBron becomes the first NBA player to appear in 5 straight NBA Finals since several Celtics players accomplished the feat in the late 50s-late 60s.

The Cavs got out to a fast start in the game and never looked back. They led the Hawks 32-20 after the 1st quarter and 59-42 at half.

The 3rd quarter was no better for the Hawks, with the Cavs outscoring them 26-18 in the quarter and walking into the 4th with an insurmountable lead of 85-60.

Key Stat:

The Hawks shot an abysmal 5-331 (16.1%) from 3-point range.

Cavs MVP:

LeBron James has 23 points, 9 reb and 7 assists through 3 quarters and was the Cavs leading cheerleader in the 4th quarter in the blowout.

Hawks MVP:

No one. The Hawks did not show up to play and were thoroughly outclassed in this game, and this series.

What's Next?:

The Cavs advance to the NBA Finals to likely play the Warriors (up 3-1 against Houston). Game 1 of the Finals is next Thursday June 4. Whichever team wins the West will host games 1 and 2.
