Browns NFL Draft Rumors: Everything You Need To Know Heading Into Draft Week

The 2015 NFL Draft is just a few days away, and there’s plenty of reason to be excited about the festivities in Chicago if you’re a Cleveland Browns fan. Here’s our breakdown of everything Browns fans need to know heading into draft week.

Cleveland Didn't Work Out Marcus Mariota Before The Draft

The Cleveland Browns have raved about former Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota for the past few months, spurring speculation that they may trade up to draft him.

However, that seems highly unlikely at this point as the Browns have not hosted Mariota for a private workout yet, nor do they have any plans to.

Cleveland does have a wild card in play as their quarterback coach Kevin O’Connell spent several months before the NFL combine working with and preparing Mariota for the pre-draft process.

“We’re in the fortunate circumstance that our quarterback coach trained him before he became our quarterback coach,” said head coach Mike Pettine. “We probably have a little bit better information about him than some others do.”

It’s still unclear that’s the reason they won’t work out Mariota, or if it’s because they’ll pass on him in the draft, but the coaching staff is fond of what they’ve seen from Mariota on tape.

Starting Offensive Lineman Not Worried About His Job Despite Draft Rumblings

Cleveland Browns right tackle Mitchell Schwartz isn’t sweating rumors that the franchise is looking for his replacement in the 2015 NFL Draft. In fact, he’s more than aware that such “chatter” is an inevitable part of the business.

“That kind of seems to be the chatter every year. You get used to it by now,” Schwartz said, via ESPN.com. “I think the offensive line is the strength of the team. You can always look to strengthen it more. We have a really strong room, a lot of guys who can play.”

Schwartz is entering the final year of his current contract with the team, leading some to speculate that the team will build depth behind him through the draft in order to get younger and cheaper at the position.
