Clemson Tigers Signing Day Fireworks

National Signing Day is drawing near and it has been an eventful year to say the least for Clemson recruiting. Clemson had an awesome class until some of the nation's best, including #1 overall player Robert Nkemdiche, decommitted. With 5 decommits since the summer many would expect the Clemson class to be in shambles but the Tiger staff has managed to put together a solid class currently and are looking to finish strong on signing day. Clemson has a few recruits that are left to decide on National Signing Day. A few weeks ago predictions were made but in just 2 weeks some of the saga with targets has changed. Who will land at Clemson? Is Clemson poised to have fireworks on signing day?

Most would consider the biggest prospect left for the Tigers as DT Montravius Adams. Adams is considered a 5 star player and #1 DT by most recruiting services. Clemson was the first school to offer him and it would be a huge disappointment to the staff and Tiger fans if he didn't choose Clemson. Adams is the type of player that can contribute immediately. He is down to Clemson, Georgia, Alabama, and Auburn. It appears to be in that order. Adams should be a Signing Day commitment to Clemson.

Another defensive lineman Clemson is making a push for is the #2 overall prospect according to ESPN, DE Carl Lawson. Lawson is 6'3" and 253 pounds. He poses the athleticism to be an impact player right away. Lawson is currently an Auburn commit but is considering Tennessee along with Clemson. Clemson is his 3rd choice right now. He has expressed interest in playing alongside Adams so that plays in Clemson's favor but he appears to be headed elsewhere.

Clemson could use the most help in the defensive backfield. DB targets MacKensie Alexander and Adrian Baker could help solve that problem right away. Alexander is a physical shut down corner and can start from day one. He's the #5 overall player according to ESPN and if you watch just a fraction of his highlights you can see why. He was thought to be a package deal with his brother, MacKenro, but recently came out and said he is leaning toward playing at a school separate from his brother. This is good news for Clemson as they did not offer MacKenro. Alexander is still considering a number of teams but has always had Clemson amongst his leaders. Baker's recruitment is a little bit simpler. He is down to just Oklahoma and Clemson. Baker is in the ESPN 300 and has good length for a corner. Both Baker and Alexander can pair to be a great DB tandem for the Tigers. Both should be choosing the orange hat on Signing Day.

One player that appears to be a lock for Clemson is OG Tyrone Crowder. Crowder in the ESPN 150 and one of the top 5 players at his position in the country. Crowder made an official visit to Clemson in January and decided not to take an official to Georgia. This puts Clemson way ahead. Crowder also used to live nearby in Greer, SC and is a cousin of current Tiger Stephone Anthony. Crowder will sign with Clemson.

Others Clemson has been after over the last month include QB Asiantii Woulard, WR James Clark, S Korrin Wiggins, and DB Ryan Carter. Woulard was thought to be a nice fit for the Tigers but after Dabo and his staff did a little more research on him they found some underlying issues and decided to back off. The recruitment of James Clark has been a little bizarre this week. Coach Swinney was supposed to have an in home visit with Clark this past week but chose not to after hearing that Clark had Ohio State at the top of his list. So Clemson has backed off of him as well. Korrin Wiggins has been a North Carolina commit and Clemson brought him in for an official in January. Wiggins lives very close to the Tar Heel campus and has apparently decided to keep his commitment with UNC but will finalize that decision on Signing Day. Carter was invited in for an official by the coaching staff late in January but was not offered a scholarship. It will be interesting to see if Clemson offers him. If so expect him to sign with Clemson.

The Tiger staff is pretty much finished with recruiting and will sit back and wait to see what happens this week. Clemson has expressed some interest in dual threat QB Joshua Dobbs who is an Arizona State commit, but he was unable to visit Clemson and his commitment to the Sun Devils appears to be safe. Some surprise recruits could include Byrnes's Akia Booker and Mykal Moody of Conway, SC. Booker had some interest from Clemson early but he was thought to be unable to qualify academically at Clemson. Rumors have surfaced that he improved academically so he could become a late option. Moody is an athlete that could be a player that could develop in 3 or 4 years.

Clemson should move up the recruiting rankings on National Signing Day. Montravius Adams, MacKensie Alexander, Adrian Baker, and Tyrone Crowder would put a nice touch on a crazy year in Clemson recruiting. With decommits from a 5 star player, three 4 star players, and one 3 star player, it is amazing that the Tigers will put together a very good class while meeting needs. The 4 they should get on signing day can and should contribute right away.
