The Reds scored six times in the second off A's lefty Sean Manaea, who lasted only three innings in his second-to-last tuneup before his April 4 season debut against the Angels. Manaea allowed five hits and walked just as many, striking out one.
"Just trying to nibble too much," Manaea said. "Third inning, I finally just said, 'just throw it down the middle and let them hit it.' That's all we did. At times, I just tried to be too fine and ended up walking a lot of guys."
Cincinnati rotation candidate Amir Garrett was also roughed up for six runs.
