ATLANTA — When they were teammates at high-Class A Bakersfield, Reds catcher Tucker Barnhart saw Billy Hamilton get to just about any ball hit to him near shortstop. The problem was the throw.

For Bakersfield in 2012, Hamilton had 25 errors in 77 games at shortstop. The year before in Dayton, he had 39 errors in 132 games for Dayton.

“He always fielded it, there were poor throws,” Barnhart said. “It was never a fielding error.”

Adam Duvall, who played against Hamilton, would only laugh when asked about Hamilton’s fielding. Hamilton, though, was more direct.

“I sucked,” he said.
