Reds notes: former first-rounder Nick Travieso has shoulder surgery

Right-hander Nick Travieso, whom the Cincinnati Reds selected 14th overall in the 2012 draft, underwent major shoulder surgery two weeks ago and will miss about nine months. Travieso has fought shoulder problems since spring training, and has not pitched this year.

The procedure was a labral repair and shoulder scope, and was performed by Dr. James Andrews. The operation officially killed any dwindling hope that Travieso would be able to take significant steps in 2017.

“Certainly Travieso is a non-factor as far as being able to help us or help himself from a pitching perspective this year,” Reds manager Bryan Price said.
