Ben Zobrist notched the Cubs' first hit and run with one swing in the fifth, launching his 16th homer into the right-field bleachers. The Cubs added on in the sixth, loading the bases off Smith before he recorded an out and ending up with a run. They added another in the seventh off reliever Tony Cingrani with two doubles.
The Cubs continued to pile on the insurance runs off the Reds' bullpen, driving in four in the eighth on a walk and two singles before Zobrist hit his second homer of the game, a two-run shot.
