Warriors Trade Rumors: Golden State Open To Trading JaVale McGee

The Golden State Warriors are willing to trade center JaVale McGee, who has seen his playing time decrease drastically this season, according to Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle.

The Chronicle confirmed last month that Golden State is open to trading McGee for a palatable offer. At 29, McGee is still an intriguing option for teams in need of frontcourt depth. He has at least a few years left of throwing down alley-oop dunks and swatting shots at a high level.

Golden State has also been in the market to upgrade their backup center position, targeting New York Knicks big man Kyle O'Quinn.

McGee was reportedly angry at the Warriors this offseason after they used the full mid-level exception to bring in Nick Young and gave Zaza Pachulia a 20 percent raise, causing him to gauge interest from other teams on the free agent market before re-signing with Golden State.

He averaged less than 10 minutes per game last season and was expecting a larger role this year, but that has not been the case.

“I’m very proud of JaVale for the way he’s handled his time on the bench,” head coach Steve Kerr said after McGee poured in a season-high 14 points in a loss to the Utah Jazz on Tuesday. “He's stayed ready. His energy has stayed good on the bench, cheering guys on. He may not like it, but he understands the situation."

McGee is averaging 4.1 points and 1.9 rebounds in 8.1 minutes per game this season.
