Rick Renteria has a deep background in player development, one of his qualifications when the Cubs hired him as manager in 2013.
Now he’ll be at the helm of a rebuilt group on the other side of the city.
As Renteria watched the White Sox pick up eight new prospects before leaving the winter meetings Thursday, the club’s new manager said he was excited “to be a part of something that is hopefully positive moving forward.”
The plan for a complete overhaul, which began with the trades of Chris Sale and Adam Eaton this week, means Renteria won’t quite know what his first Sox squad will look like until spring training.
