After Brett Lawrie hit a three-run homer to put the White Sox ahead of the Indians in the first game of a doubleheader Monday, he went up to right-hander Mat Latos in the dugout and gave him instructions.
"He just told me, 'I've got to have you shut them down right here to keep us (in front),' " Latos said after a 7-6 Sox victory. "And we were able to get a 'W.' "
Latos responded to Lawrie's pep talk with a 1-2-3 sixth inning, a solid finish to his best outing in nearly a month.
