In unsurprising yet delightful news, Fire midfielder and captain Dax McCarty will be part of the USMNT Gold Cup squad.
US Soccer announced the final 23-man roster this afternoon, which predominantly features MLS players.
A 40-man provisional roster was released earlier this month and featured both Dax and Fire midfielder-cum-wingback Matt Polster. Sadly, Polster did not make the cut.
Major League Soccer is suspending play for a few weeks to accommodate the tournament, so the Fire won’t have to make do without him for any upcoming games. Their last game before the break is July 5th away at Portland, while their first game back is July 22nd on the road against NYCFC.
