Transition team: Almora, Jay ready to step into Fowler’s shoes

Dexter Fowler joined his old teammates at the White House on Monday and for a few hours, all was right with the world.

“I told Dexter the next time he comes, I hope it’s not with the Cardinals,” Cubs manager Joe Maddon said.

Maddon added that he congratulated Fowler on the five-year, $82.5 million deal he signed with St. Louis, the Cubs’ hated arch-rival.

“He took quite a step coming back on a one-year deal,” Maddon said.

In previous years, that move would’ve made Fowler Public Enemy No. 1 with Cubs fans, but Fowler is a special case,.
