MESA, Ariz. — With rain cancelling all outdoor activities in what was supposed to be the Cubs’ first full-squad workout of the spring, reporters couldn’t help but joke around with Jason Heyward, calling back to his now-famous team meeting during the short rain delay prior to the 10th inning in Game 7 of the World Series.
Did the precipitation inspire Heyward to conduct an encore performance of said speech?
“No, much like last year, I don’t feel like anything needs to be said,” Heyward said. “We didn’t have any team meetings last season up until that point because we didn’t need any.
