July 25, 2015: A Turning Point?

July 25, 2015 is probably not a date that sticks out in the minds of many. By and large, it was a pretty unremarkable day, except that it was the end of something; namely, it was the end of a string of 7,920 consecutive games in which our Chicago Cubs had recorded at least one hit–the longest such run in all of baseball, ever, dating back to Sandy Koufax‘s perfect game against the Cubs back in September of 1965. At the same time, though, I would posit that it also represented the start of something else: the relentless march of dominance that has, to date, led to two playoff appearances and the end of the Cubs’ other record-setting run of years without a World Series trophy.
