Cubs minor leaguer Tanner Griggs suspended 50 games

CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs minor league pitcher Tanner Griggs has been suspended 50 games for testing positive for amphetamine, major league baseball announced Wednesday.

Griggs, 21, played for Class-A Eugene last season after being promoted from rookie ball in Arizona. He compiled a combined 5.50 ERA in 14 games, all in relief.

The 2014 12th-round pick out of Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas, will begin his suspension at the start of next season.
