Undrafted Alexandre Fortin turns opportunity with Blackhawks into contract

Rouyn-Noranda coach and general manager Gilles Bouchard has asked scouts why Alexandre Fortin went unselected in the last two NHL drafts.

Bouchard, who has coached Fortin the past three seasons in the QMJHL, has never got a definitive answer.

“I’m not sure what the reason is,” Bouchard said by phone on Sunday. “I don’t know.”

So how does a 19-year-old forward who was skipped over in the draft the last two years play his way into an NHL contract with the Chicago Blackhawks? The Blackhawks announced Sunday they agreed to a three-year entry-level deal with Fortin.
