Chicago is among five finalists to host the 2018 World Junior Championship, USA Hockey announced Tuesday.
Buffalo, Pittsburgh, St. Louis and Tampa Bay are also under consideration.
The World Junior Championships is a prestigious and popular tournament featuring the top junior players in the world, many of whom make the National Hockey League. About 350,000 attended this year's tournament in Montreal and Toronto.
"We had interest of varying levels from more than a dozen entities," said Mike Bertsch, assistant executive director of marketing, communications and events for USA Hockey. "In the end, we’re extremely pleased with the group of finalists.
