Lions game another litmus test for Bears QB Matt Barkley

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains has been careful to take a wait-and-see approach with quarterback Matt Barkley.

After two career starts, there is simply no good reason for anyone inside the Bears organization to make grandiose statements about Barkley’s prospects in Chicago beyond 2016.

Yes, Barkley -- for the most part -- exceeded expectations against Tennessee and San Francisco, but both games were at home, and the 49ers are abysmal.

From a pure talent-evaluation standpoint, however, Loggains is convinced Barkley belongs in the league.

“I think he’s contributed well for us the last two weeks,” Loggains said.
