Bears Rumors: Bears "open" to drafting Jay Cutler's successor?

In Bears rumors tonight, the Chicago Bears may be considering drafting a quarterback in May's NFL Draft to learn the trade behind starting quarterback Jay Cutler -- with the possibility of being the heir apparent to Cutler down the road.

According to Adam L. Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times, "the Bears always have been open to adding a young quarterback. It has been up for consideration for some time and likely will be during the draft in May."

“The next step in this — we got Jordan in place — is to bring in one other quarterback, whoever that player is, a young one [or] more experienced,” Trestman is quoted in Jahn's piece as stating at the NFL owner's meetings. “We’re going to examine all possibilities.”

Trestman also stated that he has full confidence that Jordan Palmer can fill the shoes of former Bears backup quarterback Josh McCown, but the Bears are still exploring options in one of the deepest quarterback draft classes in years.

Jahns believes that Bears fans should also keep in mind the words of general manager Phil Emery before last year's NFL Draft: “I’d like to draft a quarterback every year. If we could find the right quarterback, those are very valuable."
