The 73,587 crowd at Wembley was 41,739 up on Spurs’ most recent home league game (31,848 at White Hart Lane). As Bill Edgar in the Times’ football supplement, The Game, points out that is the highest rise in the top division since March 1969 when Chelsea attracted 17,639 for a game against Coventry, before 60,436 turned out for the next game against Man United. Wembley also became the 58th different stadium to host a Premier League match when Tottenham played Chelsea.
