The 49ers opened up league play with a series-win at FIU last weekend, narrowly missing a weekend sweep. Colton Laws tossed his second-consecutive three-hit shutout over seven innings in a 4-0 win before the Niners scored five in the fourth and three in the fifth to win the rubber game 8-7 on Sunday. The chance at a potential sweep fell through on Saturday as Charlotte carried a 4-1 lead into the eighth before ending up on the wrong side of a 5-4 comeback by FIU.
