BLACKSBURG, Va. – A goal in each half was enough to lift Virginia Tech past Charlotte, 2-0, Saturday evening in women's soccer exhibition action at Thompson Field in Blacksburg, Virginia. It marked the second and final exhibition of the campaign for the 49ers.
The Niners and Hokies went toe-to-toe in a modified format, playing two, 30-minute halves. Charlotte's starting lineup featured three freshmen: Abby Stapleton, Kate Hickson and Meredith Hamby among the 11 players in the clash against the ACC foe.
Virginia Tech struck first late in the first half, at 20:26, when Alani Johnson tucked one between the pipes for a 1-0 lead at the intermission.
