Women's Basketball Set to Celebrate Golden Year

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan women’s basketball program will celebrate its golden anniversary with a full slate of activities scheduled for Oct. 13-14 to coincide with homecoming.

“I am looking forward to our 50th celebrations of women’s basketball here at Central Michigan,” head coach Sue Guevara said. “It is my hope we get members of all 50 team back to enjoy one another, celebrate our history and meet team 50.”

Women’s basketball was first played on campus just after the turn of the century – the 20th century. Dubbed the “Normal Girls,” in line with the CMU’s name at the time, Central Michigan Normal School and Business Institute took a 24-13 win from the Midland High School girls in late winter, 1905.
